Telefilm Canada announced today that it has awarded Ludicorp CDN$450,000 in product development and marketing financing for Game Neverending (GNE) through its Canadian New Media Fund.
GNE an absurd and surreal game of political, social and economic interactions is a first-of-its-kind virtual world, accessible entirely through a web browser. Communication into and out of the game world will also be possible via other internet applications such as instant messaging, email, players' personal websites, and through mobile devices.
An extremely successful prototype test round was completed in early 2003 and over 12,000 people have so far signed up to take part in the game's public beta test which will begin this summer.
The funding is a great endorsement of the GNE vision and represents a significant portion of Telefilm's total national budget for this funding round. It will be used to accelerate the product's development and is considered an advance repayable out of future revenue.
Telefilm Canada is a federal cultural agency dedicated to the development and promotion of the Canadian film, television, new media and music industries.
