Ben Cerveny

Ben Cerveny is a pre-eminent Experience Design consultant, whose recent projects include the functional specification and interface design of experimental Playstation-based media applications for Sony and the creation of several prototype games for handheld Java-based media devices. Previously to establishing his current consulting practice, Cerveny was Manager of Global Research and Development at Organic, a top internet development agency.

Before joining the R&D team at Organic, Ben worked at Be Inc. and Silicon Graphics, building networked graphic applications and virtual reality tools in their interface design groups. He has also provided information and interaction design consulting to web agencies such as Studio Archetype and Vivid Studio. At Ikonic Interactive, Ben was a Technical Architect on Heat.net, a SegaSoft webportal community built around the ability to launch networked PC games like Quake from the browser. He served as Technical Director at CKS|Partners San Francisco, working with clients such as Levi's, MCI and Apple Computer.

Following his first degree in Critical Theory from the University of California, Ben Cerveny studied at the MediaLab at MIT. He has taught seminars in information design at the Art Center College of Design, the University of California, and the San Francisco Art Institute. He speaks frequently at conferences regarding the practices of Experience Design and Game Design. He has also taken part in live 3D and video-mixing performances in New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
